The Australian Wine Research Institute’s Analytical Service - Analyses

Metal and anion analysis

Metal analysis

Metal analysis (copper, iron, sodium, potassium, and calcium) is performed in the Analytical Service laboratory using a Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer.

Silver, lead and other heavy metals require a more sensitive analytical technique such as Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS). We can arrange for these analyses to be performed by an external laboratory on your behalf.

Anion analysis

Chloride and sulfate analyses are performed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
