Important points
- Ask your winery if they have specific chemical recommendations. These may differ from the recommendations suggested below.
- As a general rule, any agrochemical registered for use on grapevines may be used up to and including 80% capfall (according to the label).
- When spraying, ensure that the amount of chemical applied never exceeds the rate specified on the manufacturer's label (unless otherwise specified).
- Avoid spraying some types of foliar fertilisers closer than 60 days before harvest, as wine quality may be affected.
- If you are unable to keep to these recommendations, or if you need to spray closer than 30 days before harvest, contact your winery or The Australian Wine Research Institute for advice.
- Always read the label on the chemical container. The products mentioned in the table may not necessarily be registered for use in your State.
- Keep a record of agrochemical applications. Some wineries may not accept delivery of grapes without receipt of a signed spray diary from the producer.
- These recommendations have been developed as a general guide and assume that the wine will be sent to a range of overseas markets, each with differing MRLs. If you only sell wine in Australia, or to a few countries, contact Sally-Jean Bell at The Australian Wine Research Institute to discuss how these recommendations may differ. We can also provide advice regarding the persistence of a chemical on grapes or through winemaking, and MRLs for most export destinations.
