The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) is the Australian grape and wine industry’s own research organisation. Applications are invited for a maternity leave cover contract for the position of Manager – Applied Biosciences. The successful candidate will be responsible for the management of the Applied Biosciences Team within the AWRI Commercial Services division for a 12-month period. This includes overseeing service delivery and staff management for microbiology and virus testing laboratories, as well as fee-for-service commercial applied bioscience projects.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD (or a Master’s degree with significant experience) in a molecular biology or microbiology-related field and a minimum of three years’ experience in a senior laboratory or research-based role within the wine industry. They will have an in-depth understanding of wine microbiological principles, particularly relating to wine spoilage in ageing and packaged wines, and proficiency in wine microbiology testing procedures. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with team management experience highly desirable.
