Applications are invited for the position of Managing Director at the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) in Adelaide, South Australia. The AWRI was established in 1955 and has an international reputation for excellence in wine and grape research. It provides R&D, extension and commercial services to grape and wine producers throughout Australia.
The workplace culture at the AWRI is professional, innovative and rewarding. The AWRI is a member of the Wine Innovation Cluster, located in the Waite Research Precinct at Urrbrae in the Adelaide foothills. It has around 130 staff and students and purpose-built, well-equipped facilities.
The Board of the AWRI is seeking an exceptional leader to the take up the position of Managing Director on 1 February 2020.
The successful candidate will communicate the Board’s vision, ensuring the AWRI retains its position as a leader in grape and wine science. The Managing Director will engage both staff and stakeholders in the pursuit of outcomes for the benefit of the Australian grape and wine sector.
Previous senior executive management experience is essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to nurture world-class science with direct relevance to grape and wine producers in the short, medium and long term.
The Managing Director must have a passion for communication and possess proven skills necessary to promote the AWRI’s activities and achievements to the grape and wine industry, to relevant scientific organisations, to government bodies and to the general public. The Managing Director reports to the Board and is responsible for the sound management of the AWRI. He or she will act as a spokesperson and represent the AWRI in industry matters as appropriate. The Managing Director will also be responsible for ensuring the AWRI meets the aims and objectives of its Research, Development and Extension plan and its operational plans.
