The Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) is the Australian grape and wine industry’s own research organisation. It supports a sustainable and successful grape and wine industry through world class research, practical solutions and knowledge transfer. Applications are invited for the position of Technical Officer to support research projects based at the AWRI, at the Waite Research Precinct in Adelaide. The Technical Officer will provide analytical support for projects which investigate non-volatile organic compounds in wine. The successful candidate will perform analysis of samples by spectroscopy, HPLC and LC-MS. A further key role will be to provide technical support for the extraction, isolation, purification and structural characterisation of non-volatile compounds from grapes and wine.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in analytical chemistry techniques, an excellent communicator and team player, and will have a high level of integrity and scientific curiosity. Experience in liquid chromatography (HPLC, LC-MS), compound isolation and structural elucidation is highly desirable.
