Description
The ratio of vegetative growth to crop load, is of central importance to optimising fruit composition and wine quality.
To achieve optimal vine balance a range of canopy and yield management techniques are imposed by the viticulturist depending on the vineyard, variety and end use specifications.
The aim of canopy management at Wynns Coonawarra Estate is to achieve a balanced crop load to leaf area which supports even flowering, fruitset and veraison which in turn will decrease vineyard variability and promote even ripening.
The use of EM38 sensing and PCD imagery are important tools to help decrease within vineyard variability and can highlight the requirement for techniques to even out vine balance and will be discussed throughout the presentation. In addition, the presentation will address the differences between proactive and reactive canopy management strategies that can be readily implemented within the vineyard.
