During wine tasting, even if wine is not swallowed, alcohol is still absorbed through the mouth during the tasting process. The rate of absorption, the effect on blood alcohol content, and the rate at which alcohol is then metabolised, can vary significantly from person to person. It is recommended that as a participant in the course you have a large breakfast each morning prior to the course, and also eat the morning and afternoon teas and lunch provided at the course. To avoid any risk of drink driving, the AWRI encourages you to avoid driving to or from the course, and recommends that you make other transport arrangements. In order to gain maximum benefit from the course and in accordance with responsible consumption of alcohol principles, the AWRI encourages you to be mindful of the volumes of alcohol that you consume during the course, and to avoid excessive consumption. The AWRI reserves the right to refuse further service of alcohol to any person who is intoxicated. During the course you may be offered the opportunity to use an appropriately calibrated and maintained breathalyser to assist you in establishing an understanding of how you personally metabolise alcohol when you are tasting wines in this context. This service is provided for this specific purpose only, and is not to be used to guide or influence other decisions including whether you are capable of driving a motor vehicle on that day. If you have any health issues or are taking medication that could be adversely affected and/or exacerbated by the consumption of alcohol, you should seek medical advice before accepting a place in this course. Your acceptance of a place in this course is confirmation that you have considered the risks associated with consumption of alcohol during the course and are willing to accept them. In addition you agree to indemnify the AWRI against any claims whatsoever that you may make or may be made against you arising out of your participation in this course. This advice is of a general nature only and is not a substitute for independent professional advice from a medical practitioner or specialist. Please consult a medical practitioner or specialist if you have any questions concerning your medical condition and your ability to consume wine safely. Disclaimer, indemnity and advice - acceptance and understanding* I confirm that I have read and understood the above disclaimer, indemnity and advice and my acceptance of a place in this course is confirmation that I have considered and am willing to accept the risks associated with consumption of alcohol during the course as outlined above. I further confirm that I have considered these risks as they relate to driving a motor vehicle, and will make appropriate transport arrangements for the duration of the course. I will comply with all terms and conditions including but not limited to the COVID-19-specific terms and conditions.
